When my daughter was diagnosed on the autistic spectrum, my world was shattered! I was frozen and full of anger and denial. “Why my child? What did I do wrong? How do I fix this?” I would ask myself over and over.
But my pessimism wasn’t helping my daughter one bit. I knew that I had to pull myself together and be strong and get her to the proper interventions. Not only did I need to learn just what this disorder was and how it was affecting her, I needed to research the right therapies and treatments to help her overcome it. But I felt all alone without guidance from someone who had been there before and without a road map to follow.
I know from first hand experience the stress and strain that this disorder can come to bear on a parent. And I am all too familiar with the confusion that comes with it.
What do I do with this diagnosis now?
Who do I see next?
What additional tests should I have performed?
My child won’t eat – how do I handle that?
How can I just get my child to look at me or say, “Mommy?”
Do I arrange for private therapies? What kind?
I AM SO CONFUSED! - Won’t somebody help me?”
FINALLY, there is help from a mother who has been down the long and arduous road!
I bring guidance and "a mother's perspective" to parents of newly-diagnosed children on the autistic spectrum. I am of the opinion that it takes a multidisciplinary approach to really make a difference with this disorder. As a lot of children on the autistic spectrum present with a variety of issues ranging from gastrointestinal, to sensory integration, to auditory processing, to speech and behavior, I believe coming at it from all angles to address each issue is of the utmost importance. It really made all the difference with my daughter, and that, along with self-education, is the concept behind my consulting – knowledge is POWER!
Consulting
Services
Not only do my personal experiences with this disorder provide guidance and education to parents, but I have completed the intense three-week Tomatis training course plus personal listening work (over 130 hours of education and training) as well as I am certified in The Listening Program (TLP) and am a provider of TLP systems with bone conduction. These courses have afforded me the knowledge to speak about auditory training, how re-training the ears to listen actually works and what this type of therapy can do for children with special needs.
EARLY INTERVENTION IS KEY!
